How are Stem Cells Used

A Stem cell transplant creates healthy new cells, rebuilding the blood and immune systems. Over 85 conditions have been successfully treated using umbilical cord stem cells but this is only the beginning.

Every year, more and more parents are storing their children’s umbilical cord stem cells. It is also the only time you can store cells which are a guaranteed 100% match to your child. The current and potential treatment options are truly amazing.

Stem cell transplants take place by way of a simple injection. Once in the bloodstream, stem cells are transported through to the part of the body where they are needed. At this point, they differentiate and begin the healing process.

Not only can preserved cells be used for you baby in the future but can be used for siblings and parents as well. The cells are a 100% match to your child and provide a 1 in 4 chance of being a 100% match to a sibling. These are much better odds than you would get from a donor register (approx. 1 in 100,000).

The next closest match would be parents, followed by uncles / aunts and grandparents.
